IDEA INITIAL WINNER OF MNP,BSNL RCOM LOSERS

MNP or mobile number portability which allows subscribers to change service providers while retaining numbers was launched Pan India on january 20.In the  initial 8 days of MNP launch,IDEA,country’s sixth-largest mobile operator emerged as the biggest gainer.According to figures made available by telecom companies to the Department of Telecommunications, Idea Cellular saw a net gain of 12,300 subscribers. Net gain means the difference between the number of subscribers who left and those who joined. Vodafone Essar emerged second with a net gain of 11252 subscribers.Aircel came third with 3389 net additions.Airtel had a net gain of 94 customers and remained unaffected by MNP.The biggest losers were Reliance(both CDMA and GSM) followed by BSNL followed by TATA Teleservices (both CDMA and GSM).Reliance lost 9837 subscribers and 192 chosed to join the network.Telecom analysts and operators believe that MNP will not be a game changer because only 1% of the total customer base will change their network.Earlier when MNP was implemented in Haryana a month back only about 1% of the customers changed their service providers.
